The research sought to examine how poverty has impacted on the academic performance of students in Enugu East public secondary schools. Survey research design was adopted. Structured questionnaire was constructed on a 4point Likert scale and textbooks, journals and unpublished works were consulted and referenced as secondary sources. The study revealed inter alia that, poverty influences the academic performance of students in Enugu East LGA in terms of classroom teaching and learning. Conclusively, the impact of poverty is enormous and the present state of poor academic performance here and beyond categorically shows that there is an assignment to be completed vis-à-vis the quantum of development plans and poverty alleviation programs. Thus, government should roll out sustainable scholarship schemes that would ensure the achievement of the educational aspirations of poor students living in Enugu East LGA and beyond.</p> ER -
